A political 'Cold War' between the Tingu and Astu, which has existed on the home world they share, Bastario, for the last decade, finally descended into madness, recently, when the crew of an Astu hunter-killer satellite were fired upon by the crew of a crippled Tingu satellite they were attempting to save as it drifted into the corrosive clutches of the Cumen-Lanska Nebula.

After both satellites were destroyed, the two governments ordered their respective armed forces to their highest state of readiness: just one notch short of outright war!

Both the rescue and subsequent fire fight were politically motivated, according to Youl Scofa, a Tingu reporter, who was detained and later executed for treason after publishing his story. He is survived by a partner and several children.
