In an announcement, today, which can only be labelled 'predictable', the elders of the Saba ne Runta - the planet Occuna's principle religious faction - accused the scientific community, and in particular the Chief Invigilator of the Archaeological Institute, Berna Geismanga, of blasphemy.
The present chief elder, or 'Feyoon', chose to make the pronouncement at a ceremony marking the two thousandth anniversary of the bloody martyrdom of the first Feyoon, Garramon Hashismanga. This represents a hardening of the official church's attitude towards what it describes as the 'malicious falsehood of evolution theory' promulgated by 'followers of Bilaboo (the evil one)'.
Berna Geismanga recently confirmed his personal support and endorsement of the theory of progressive, genetic modification, first suggested by the renowned anthropologist, Bertran Catonmanga, in which he claimed, 'the fossil record speaks for itself'.
The Feyoon and the rest of the Saba ne Runta disagrees with Catonmanga, and are prepared to declare them all, 'banished from the sight of Gilaboo (the good one) for all eternity. He stated that, "All who follow the true teachings know Gilaboo caused all of creation to appear over a period of two crunes (roughly two earth weeks), sixteen thousand, four hundred and thirty seven annacrunes (years) ago. The so-called fossil record is doubtless the result of the impact of a multitude of large, astronomical bodies," he added, "which were themselves the remains of former worlds, populated by strange, miraculous, but long dead, creatures."
The Feyoon called the idea that the geological age of these worlds, which were supposedly created at the same moment as Occuna,
and yet had rocks and fossils dating back millions of years, proved Occuna was considerably older than the church claimed - as 'unhelpful'.
