Until recently, Hamut Garn was an obscure sand crystal miner on Selota, a small planet in the Arthropedia system. Then, one day, while he was indulging in the one small luxury he permitted himself to spend his hard earned myca pebbles on, his chiropodist, Juscut, was heard to exclaim, "Holy yellow things, Hamut, I just saw something move between your toes."
At first, Garn was sceptical of the claim - the chiropodist always tickled him, and he suspected the rogue was trying to distract him - but when Juscut held up the spoon-shaped implement, with which he was attempting to remove layers of encrusted detritus from between the miner's toes, Garn was shocked to see he was telling the truth: something was indeed moving around on the end of it. Unfortunately, Juscut's hands were none too steady, and the unidentified life-form fell to the ground and disappeared into a crack in the stone floor.
"It was a great shock to me," Garn confided to our reporter. "And a great loss, too. I could have sold that to a museum, maybe. Could even have trained it to do tricks. It would have kept me company." He sighed, heavily, and left with the words, "I'll be back in twenty 'creetes', Juscut. Maybe we can find another one."
