"Kiiron", "The Shepherds of Or'Madz" and "Lodestar Rising" are the three books in Trisha Johnson's "Lodestar Rising Trilogy".
"Kiiron" was acquired by a U.S. publisher, late 2006, and was released in May of 2007. The trilogy was five years in the writing, and another two, to quote the author, 'stewing'. "Kiiron" is available from all online book stores and a signing tour of the U.S. West Coast is in the process of being finalized.
Born in England, Trisha spent most of her adult life designing and installing global computer networks for Fortune 500 companies. Then, one day, a little over four years ago, while watching a documentary about an Englishwoman who had come to L.A. to study screenwriting, on a T.V. in the business lounge at Athens airport, she realized she needed to make a much needed change in her own life. So, instead of returning home, she bought a ticket to Los Angeles and enrolled in a screenwriting course at U.C.L.A.. Then, she travelled back to England, packed her bags, and her labrador dog, Hamish, and moved to the U.S. To say the classes she attended faned her slow-burning desire to write professionally would be an understatement! Having purchased a small business in northern Arizona, so she could remain in the U.S. and pursue her new career. In November, 2005, she moved to Northern California, where she spent her free time walking her Golden Retriever puppy, Bengi, or four-wheeling
in her Jeep, in places as far afield as Wyoming, Oregon, Idaho and Lake Piute, Utah (the location of the photograph, with her previous dog, Hamish, in the foreground). It's while she's walking that she develops her stories, using a hand held recorder to take notes. As she explains: "When I'm working out the dialogue between two or more people, I differentiate between them by using several 'voices'. It helps when I transcribe the tape later on. I've lost count of the number of times a fellow 'walker' has come upon this 'deranged woman', apparently having a two, three or four way conversation with herself!"
In June of 2007, she moved to Belize, Central America, where she is pursuing her fascination with the Mayan Civilization, an important aspect to the story she's presently developing, called, "Shaman".
The urge to write is not new! Storytelling is second nature to her. She loves entertaining people, and has always admired those authors who do it well.
She likes strong, well developed characters to draw the reader in, rather than simply relying on technology to impress them. But writing does take its toll!
"A writer is first and foremost an observer," she says. "It can be lonely, sometimes, living on the outside looking in." But she adds that there is little time for feeling alone, with so much happening in her life, right now. One of the stories she's currently working on, about a faith healer, called, "Miracle Man", has already drawn attention from an independent film producer in Hollywood. She's now busy turning it into a screenplay. She also has another screenplay, a big budget science fiction concept, entitled, "Shaman", under development.
Though busy with a pre-release publicity program for her book, she still intends to keep up her output of material for 'SciFi-Babe. Her latest website project - a black comedy - is, 'The Empress Serafina Roh Lin', the wealthiest woman in the galaxy. Still under development, it is nothing less than the creation and population of an entire culture, centered on a woman for whom the words, 'It can't be done', are an anathema!
